10/10 MOVIE BROS
Watching Big Fish always brings me to tears and makes me laugh at the same time. Its a confusing and wonderfully amazing experience that i've watched 3 times (so far). What I learned from watching this movie, is that life is a very complicated thing, and every individual person experiences and witnesses it differently, based on probably an infinity of reasons. And that, though try as we may, I doubt that people will every fully be able to comprehend another person.
The scenes that stood out to me the most were, the two times that Edward ended up in ashton. The first time he was young and naive, so when he came to ashton, everything was perfect. Bright, happy, and with no worries or cares in sight. Knowing he had to leave though, he did so with the promise to return. But when he did, Ashton had been brought to "reality" and the once perfect town had become ruined. Now, what a lot of people would've given up and just left again. But Edward didn't, he bought the town and fixed it. and I feel like that was sort of a metaphor for, no matter what life brings your way, and now matter how much you get beaten down, there will always be people there to help fix you up when you need it.
The moral lesson that I think the audience takes away after watching Big Fish is that you can make life anyway you want it to be, every part of you has stories to tell, and no matter which way you tell them, it's all true. But people will and can interpret everything their own unique way.
I think that Big Fish Explains this metaphor by how Will sees all of Edwards stories as fairy tales that never really happened and that his father was a liar, but after exploring his fathers study, visiting Jenny, and ultimately Edwards death. Edward realized that though maybe his fathers stories had a whimsical element to them, the people he met and the things he did were all (more or less) what had really happened to him. All Edward really did, was add a touch of magic to the world.
Understanding the storyline... I'm not sure if that really helps me, one out of the 3 characters that I am (the shotgun toter) is actually in the movie. So I guess it may not really help, but i still understand that i've got to be whimsical, in a sense.
